OVA: 3 Episodes [Akatsuki no Yona: Sono ne niwa] ❤
Another animé I couldn’t stop watching until the credits at the end of episode 24. This one seemed super short. Each episode felt like it was over before I knew it. It was so captivating even bathroom breaks became a major inconvenience.
Yona of the dawn is a reverse harem following Yona-hime and her bodyguard Hak-san. Yona-hime was a naïve girl living with her head in the clouds when her whole world changed in an instant. The boy she has loved her whole life killed her father the king in cold blood and this wasn’t something she heard from someone else, she actually witnessed the murdering of her otou-sama. Shortly after that same boy she has loved all this time set guards on her and they attempted to assassinate her but she was saved by Hak-san her trusted body guard.
Of course that meant she had to flee the kingdom. Upon fleeing she went to Hak-san’s home town and the elder there told them to seek out some priest and he would help them out. They found the priest and the priest had something interesting to say. Apparently a long time ago there was a Kami-sama [Red dragon God] who loved humans so much he decided to become human himself, he was a beautiful ruler, fair and just but humans are greedy, they soon turned on him and in an attempt to save him, the heavens sent four dragons to protect him. The kami-sama was called king Hiryuu. The four dragons that came to his aid were the green dragon, the blue dragon, the white dragon and the yellow dragon.
The four dragons put their essence into humans so that they could protect King Hiryuu as humans with God-like abilities. Throughout this season we see Yona-hime adventuring the kingdoms, seeing the reality of things in deep contrast with what she thought to be true.
What I loved the most about Yona of the dawn is the character development, we see Yona-hime develop as a character but the other characters also grow and mature and become stronger which is all super inspiring. This also has a hint of romance which they don’t press too much which I appreciate. It is handled very delicately which keeps it fresh and prevents it from interfering with the main story. I also loved how all the characters were so interesting, I mean I would watch a sequel on all the characters in the show.
This was super interesting and I only stopped watching it after the credits in the very last episode were finished. This is an absolute must watch!!!
